2018 Super Bowl Halftime Show

2018 Halftime show are a tradition during American football games at all levels of competition. Entertainment during the Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), represents a fundamental link to pop culture, which helps broaden the television audience and nationwide interest. As the Super Bowl itself is typically the most-watched event on television in the United States annually, the halftime show has been equally-viewed in recent years: the halftime show of Super Bowl XLIX was viewed by 118.5 million (with the game itself peaking at 120.3 million at its conclusion).

Prior to the early 1990s, the halftime show was based around a theme, and featured university marching bands (the Grambling State University Marching Band has performed at the most Super Bowl halftime shows, featuring in six shows including at least one per decade from the 1960s to the 1990s), drill teams, and other performance ensembles such as Up with People. Beginning in 1991, the halftime show began to feature pop music acts such as New Kids on the Block and Gloria Estefan. In an effort to boost the prominence of the halftime show to increase viewer interest, Super Bowl  featured a headlining performance by Michael Jackson. After Super Bowl whose halftime show featured an incident where Justin Timberlake exposed one of Janet Jackson's breasts, the halftime show began to feature classic rock acts until the return of headlining pop musicians in 2011.

During most of the Super Bowl's first decade, the halftime show featured a college marching band. The show's second decade featured a more varied show, often featuring drill teams and other performance ensembles; the group Up with People produced and starred in four of the performances. The middle of the third decade, in an effort to counter other networks' efforts to counterprogram the game, saw the introduction of popular music acts such as New Kids on the Block, Gloria Estefan, Michael Jackson, Clint Black, Patti LaBelle, and Tony Bennett.

Super Bowl 2018 Highlights

Super Bowl 2018 was watched by an average of more than 106 million people, surpassing the 1983 finale of "M-A-S-H" to become the most-watched program in U.S. television history, the Nielsen Co. said on Monday.

Compelling story lines involving the city of New Orleans and its ongoing recovery from Hurricane Katrina, as well as Colts quarterback Peyton Manning's attempt at a second Super Bowl ring propelled viewership of Sunday's game in Miami Gardens, Fla. Football ratings have been strong all season.

Nielsen estimated Monday that 106.5 million people watched the Super Bowl on average and 151.6 million tuned in overall. The "M-A-S-H" record was an average of 105.97 million.

The viewership estimate obliterated the previous record viewership for a Super Bowl -- last year's game between the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers. That game was seen by an average of 98.7 million people, Nielsen said.

Super Bowl XLIV received a 45.0 rating, making it the highest-rated NFL championship game in 14 years (46.0 rating for Steelers-Dallas in Super Bowl XXX, January 1996). It was a 7 percent increase over last year's 42.0 rating.

The "M-A-S-H" ratings record has proven as durable and meaningful in television as Babe Ruth's record of 714 home runs was in baseball until topped by Hank Aaron. Ultimately, it might be hard to tell which program really was watched by more people. There's a margin for error in such numbers, and Nielsen's Monday estimate was preliminary and could change with a more thorough look at data due Tuesday.

"It's significant for all of the members of the broadcasting community," said Leslie Moonves, CBS Corp. CEO. "For anyone who wants to write that broadcasting is dead, 106 million people watched this program. You can't find that anywhere else."

Moonves predicted that CBS will earn more in advertising revenue than in any other Super Bowl. The good ratings for the game and football in general also set CBS and other football broadcasters up well when selling advertising for next season, he said.

The Nielsen estimate also drew some congratulations from Alan Alda, the star of "M-A-S-H."

» NFL Network schedule

"If the 'M-A-S-H' audience was eclipsed, it was probably due in large part to the fact that the whole country is rooting for New Orleans to triumph in every way possible," Alda said. "I am, too, and I couldn't be happier for them. I love that city."

There are more American homes with television sets now (114.9 million) than there were in 1983 (83.3 million). An estimated 77 percent of homes with TVs on were watching "M-A-S-H" in 1983, compared with the audience share of 68 percent for the Super Bowl.

Nielsen also measures only the United States, and it's possible that some World Cup soccer games were seen more worldwide. Accurate measurement of television audiences outside the U.S. is spotty at best.

Alda also wondered whether the numbers were too close to declare a new champion. He believes Nielsen didn't take into account large numbers of people watching "M-A-S-H" communally, which often is the case for football games, too.

"Not to say I'm competitive, but in part we are talking about sports," he said. "And I actually am competitive."

McManus didn't want to jinx it, but the abnormally strong viewership for football this season left him hoping for a record. The NFC and AFC championship games both had their biggest audiences since the 1980s. The growth of high-definition television and its appeal to sports fans also has helped.

A competitive game until the final minutes sealed it. McManus acknowledged some nervousness when Indianapolis jumped out to a 10-0 lead -- a Super Bowl rout often makes people turn away from the game -- but New Orleans roared back.

The Mid-Atlantic blizzard also helped CBS. After New Orleans, the highest-rated market was snowbound Washington D.C., Nielsen said. More people watched the game from their homes in that area instead of going to parties or bars, and Nielsen does a much better job counting viewers in homes than outside of them.

2018 Super Bowl

This year 2018 Super Bowl (super bowl 52) will take place at the San Fransico 49er's new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Tickets will be available by zone until 2018. SIgn up for email updates on Packages and Parties.

CBS set the base rate for a 30-second advertisement at $5,000,000, a figure that is $500,000 above the record set by Super Bowl XLIX and is symbolic of the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl. Perennial Super Bowl advertiser Anheuser-Busch will return with ten advertisements; it is the final year in a multi-year contract with the NFL that allows the beer manufacturer to buy multiple Super Bowl ads at a discounted rate each year

Super Bowl LII, the 52nd Super Bowl will decide the league champion for the 2017 season. It is planned to be held on February 4, 2018, with the exact date pending future changes to the NFL calendar, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the second Super Bowl in Minneapolis, which previously hosted Super Bowl XXVI in 1992. The game will be televised nationally by NBC.

The 2018 Saint Paul Winter Carnival will conclude on Super Bowl Sunday. About once a decade, including during the 1992 Super Bowl hosted in Minneapolis, the Carnival has hosted a large ice palace. Organizers again plan to build an ice palace to attract Super Bowl visitors to Saint Paul in 2018.

Super Bowl LII

Super Bowl LII will be the 52nd Super Bowl The American Football Conference (AFC) champion will play the National Football Conference (NFC) champion to decide the league champion for the 2016 season.

The game is scheduled for February 5, 2018, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, and will be the third Super Bowl in Houston, after VIII in 1974 and XXXVIII in 2004. It will be televised nationally in the United States by Fox.

The NFL selected the sites for Super Bowl 52 and Super Bowl LII in 2013, at the owners' spring meetings in Boston on May 21. On October 16, 2012, the NFL announced that Reliant Stadium in Houston, which was renamed NRG Stadium in 2014, was a finalist to host Super Bowl LII. Houston then competed against the runner-up for the site of Super Bowl 50: Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The South Florida bid for either Super Bowl partially depended on whether the stadium underwent renovations. However, on May 3, the Florida legislature refused to approve the funding plan to pay for the renovations, dealing a blow to South Florida's chances. The NFL ultimately selected Houston as the host city of Super Bowl LII.

Super Bowl LII will be played at Houston's NRG Stadium on February 5, 2018, according to the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee.

The committee says the National Football League made the announcement Thursday.

"We are excited to now know the date, and the Houston Super Bowl LII Host Committee is proud and eager to lock in the countdown to kick-off," Host Committee Chairman Ric Campo said in a prepared statement. "It's a tremendous opportunity to showcase Houston as the forward-looking, global city that it is, as well as come together as a community and have a great time."

Houston has hosted a Super Bowl twice before. Super Bowl VIII was held at Rice Stadium back in 1974, and Super Bowl XXXVIII took place at Reliant Stadium in 2004. The event will be an international Super Bowl and it's a huge economic win for our area.

"We are thankful our good friend Bob McNair and the other NFL owners are returning the Super Bowl to the best venue in America," said host committee Honorary Chairman James A. Baker, III, the 61st U.S. Secretary of State. "We plan to return that favor by hosting a celebration with our special Houston flair, and we are already deep into the preparation for it."

Super Bowl 2018 Start time

The Super Bowl 2018 Start time. The 52nd Super Bowl will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area and the NFL championship will go to Houston the following year. Team owners voted Tuesday for the 49ers' new stadium as host of the 2018 game. That facility in Santa Clara, Calif., is due to open for the 2014 season.

San Francisco beat out South Florida, which was stymied in its bid to stage an 11th Super Bowl when the Florida Legislature did not support financing to renovate Sun Life Stadium.

Who Won the Super Bowl 2018?

Who Won the Super Bowl 2018? The National Football League preseason will begin in just over two weeks, kicking off August 3 with a game between the New York Giants and the Buffalo Bills. Does that mean it’s too early to start looking at which teams will be left standing next February? Absolutely not. It’s never too soon to start analyzing favorites and the teams that Vegas has picked out as the most likely winners at the very outset of football season. All odds are courtesy of Bovada.

1. Seattle Seahawks, 13-to-2

It is extraordinarily difficult to become a back-to-back Super Bowl champion. The last three teams to do it — the Patriots, the Broncos, and the Cowboys — cover the last two decades of NFL history (shout out to the ’88 and ’89 49ers, who are next in line). Seattle could do it, for sure: That defense isn’t going anywhere and their receiving corps is better, but this line seems to be a tip of the hat to the defending champs.

2. Denver Broncos, 13-to-2

The purveyors of the best offense the NFL has ever seen felt the rough edge of the beatstick when they put up an utterly ineffective performance against Seattle in the Super Bowl, but the any given Sunday cliche cuts both ways, and Denver could very easily carve up defenses all the way to a title next season. The odds are set accordingly.

3. San Francisco 49ers, 7-to-1

After three straight deep trips through the postseason, Colin Kaepernick and company aren’t taking anyone by surprise anymore: 7-to-1 odds for the Bay Area squad sounds about right, and we expect them to return to the conference finals, if not the Super Bowl.

4. New England Patriots, 9-to-1

Was any team ravaged harder by injuries and general roster reshuffling than the New England Patriots? Running on their fifth and sixth options on offense (nothing illustrated that better when they went to the run and LeGarrette Blount against the Colts) and with a defense that looked to be made out of papier mache, the Pats still made it to the AFC Championship game and look to be better than last year.

5. Green Bay Packers, 11-to-1

Last seen battling the San Francisco 49ers on the icy tundra of Lambeau Field — that was the game with all the snow and the endless shots of players on both sides clinging to any kind of warmth possible — Aaron Rodgers and company lost 20-23 but still looked like they could go all the way next season, provided they see a little bit more from their depleted receiving corps.

6. New Orleans Saints, 14-to-1

Their putrid performance against the Seattle Seahawks, who were the eventual Super Bowl champions, didn’t seem to sway Vegas’s thoughts on the Saints, who are usually a lock to put up big numbers regardless of the team they’re facing (although the knock has always been that they play best in a dome). Hopefully they’re able to reach an amicable agreement with Jimmy Graham.

7. Chicago Bears, 16-to-1

Shifting to a West Coast offense that saw them break even in 2013 (they went 8-8), the Chicago Bears witnessed the breakout sophomore campaign of Alshon Jeffery, as well as strong showings from Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte.

8. Indianapolis Colts, 16-to-1

Calling Andrew Luck a precocious talent seems a little incongruous after the Colts suffered a 43-22 loss in their last NFL game of the season, but the Colts, who went 11-5 in 2013, have to appreciate his growth and his arm. Plus, he hung 335 yards and two touchdowns on a better-than-advertised New England defense, even if their D was paper thin by the time the playoffs came around.

Super Bowl 2018 Commercials

The Super Bowl 2018 Commercials. Super Bowl LII advertisers clearly went for inspiration over humor amid Sunday's commercials during the game. There was a gentleness that the commercials took on, with few laugh-aloud moments or physical comedy. They eschewed gags and went for messages that in some cases trumped their product.

This year's most buzzed about Super Bowl commercials had to cater to a diverse crowd, with everything from slapstick humor to the emotionally poignant. There were 15 first-time brands advertising this year -- the most since 2000, including candy brand Skittles.

This was the most buzzy Super Bowl in social media ever. With Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch as a spokesman, it may come as little surprise that more Seattle fans mentioned Skittles last night in social media than Boston fans.

Whether you loved or hated the Super Bowl commercials this year, for the brands, success is often measured by whether you talk about their ads. AdWeek editor shared her picks for the best 2018 Super Bowl commercials.

Super Bowl 2018 Score

The Super Bowl 2018 Score. The third quarter got started off with a bang, as Seattle wide receiver Chris Matthews caught his third pass of the day, another huge one that put him at 100 yards for the game. That's such a big deal given that Matthews didn't have a single NFL reception before this game. That put Seattle in scoring position, and Steven Hauschka kicked a 27-yard field goal to put the Seahawks up.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT scored big when it came to catching the attention of car shoppers during the 2018 Super Bowl, according to an Edmunds analysis.

The Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl commercial, dubbed "Fable," was a contemporary take on the tortoise-and-hare story.

The AMG GT, which is slated to arrive at Mercedes-Benz dealerships this spring, is an all-new two-seat sport coupe that will replace the outgoing SLS AMG.

Super Bowl 2018 Fight

Super Bowl 2018 Fight. A fight broke out at the end of Super Bowl LII and two New England Patriots are paying the price.

Gronkowski allegedly hit a competitor and Hoomanawanui allegedly ripped the helmet off a player's head.

Gronkowski reportedly spoke about the incident on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and said he was "pushed or something, and it was the last game of the year, and I was like, ‘Screw it, I'm throwing some haymakers.”

Defensive end Michael Bennett was also fined $8,268 and Linebacker Bruce Irvin was fined $10,000 and kicked out of the game. Both fines were the result of hitting another player.

Pro Bowl 2018

Pro Bowl 2018. The NFL has an agreement with the State of Hawaii to play the Pro Bowl at Aloha Stadium following the 2018 season but final confirmation of the game will be made at a later date.

"On behalf of the state of Hawai'i, I am pleased and proud to welcome the NFL Pro Bowl back to the Hawaiian Islands in 2018," said Shan Tsutsui, Lt. Governor of the State of Hawaii. "For more than three decades, the NFL Pro Bowl has been a highly anticipated and exciting event that the players, visitors and our residents enjoy, and has benefited our local communities and tourism economy. We understand the NFL's interest in moving the all-star game to Arizona, one of their franchise cities, and wish them our best aloha. Hawai'i and the NFL have a long history and strong relationship, and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future."

"The return of the Pro Bowl in 2018 provides the state with an opportunity to showcase our islands unique culture and beauty," said Gov. Neil Abercrombie. "Our state stands ready to create another memorable experience for the world’s best football players, their families and the fans."

"We are pleased that the NFL Pro Bowl will return to Hawai'i in 2018 and look forward to welcoming the fans, players and their families back to our Hawaiian Islands," said Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO Mike McCartney. "We are grateful for our more than 30-year relationship with the NFL and look to continue our friendship for many years to come. We have also reached an agreement with the NFL that would allow the option for Hawai'i to host the game again in 2018."

For the first time, the Pro Bowl was "unconferenced," and several key playing rules were changed for added excitement. Rather than the familiar AFC vs. NFC match-up that had existed since 1971, players were selected without regard to conference in voting by fans, coaches and players.

Tickets will be available first to Arizona Cardinals season ticket members and annual Pro Bowl season ticket holders. Pro Bowl annual ticket subscribers in Hawaii will maintain their account status for any future games at Aloha Stadium.

Super Bowl 2018 Scores

The Super Bowl 2018 scores is an annual American football game that determines the champion of the National Football League (NFL). The contest is held in an American city, chosen three to four years beforehand, usually at warm-weather sites or domed stadiums. Since January 1971, the winner of the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game has faced the winner of the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship Game in the culmination of the NFL playoffs.

Before the 1970 merger between the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL), the two leagues met in four such contests. The first two were known as the "AFL-NFL World Championship Game". The NFC/NFL leads in Super Bowl wins with 26, while the AFC/AFL has won 23. Nineteen different franchises, including teams that relocated to another city, have won the Super Bowl.

Best Super Bowl Commercials 2018

The best Super Bowl Commercials 2018. It’s not by chance that the Super Bowl 52 always manages to attract more viewers than any other game during the regular NFL regular season (or any other major U.S. sporting event period, most years.)

Whether it’s for the promise of a can’t miss half-time show, a game-day party with friends, or the chance to go nuts on a Super Bowl snack spread, scores of people who wouldn’t regularly be interested in watching football tend to swell the big game’s audience each year — even if their eyes are glued to their phone for most of the event.

Yet, as Google data shows, not even imported $140 pizzas can hold a candle to what gets the majority of non-sportos paying attention to the world of football for one day each calendar year: Super Bowl commercials.

Canadians are a particularly ad-savvy bunch when it comes to the Super Bowl, according to Google Canada. In fact, we’ve been outpacing our U.S. counterparts in searches for "Super Bowl Commercials" on YouTube for the past five years
